How would you describe your wedding photography style?

My wedding photography style is very much a documentary storytelling style; relaxed, candid/unposed, leaving you and your guests to enjoy the day and I capture it all as it happens unobtrusively. Along with all the people that make your wedding day special, I love to photograph the little details that tell the whole story - the flowers, letters, notes & gifts, food & drink, clothes, entertainment etc. On a wedding day, I love observing all the social connections that unfold with so many stories to be told within one event. As your wedding photographer or ‘guest with a camera’ I'm always looking around to maximise every last minute of those connections.

Do you offer a pre-wedding shoot?

Yes I offer a free engagement / pre-wedding photography shoot for packages 3, 4, 5 & 6 and 50% off package 1 and 2 bookings within 30 mile radius of Falmouth. Outside this distance I add travel expenses. A pre-shoot is a really great opportunity to get to know each other and be relaxed and natural in front of the camera where I'll offer tips. Bonus is you also get to keep the edited photos from the shoot.

How do we book you?

Nice and simple, I send you a quick and easy online contract/booking form to fill in along with my bank details to pay the 25% deposit. Once received, that's me booked for you. The remaining balance will be due 1 month before you wedding day.

Do you photograph weddings outside of Cornwall?

90% of weddings I photograph are in Cornwall and Devon but I'm happy to travel so if you're getting married further afield then I'd love to hear about your wedding plans and tailor a wedding photography package to suit those plans. Get in touch to start the ball rolling.

Are you flexible on hours?

Yes I'm really flexible. Some couples may wish for photography coverage that's more than 1 day or isn't quite a full day, but a half day maybe too little and this is absolutely fine; I'm happy to tailor a wedding photography package that works for you.

What is your favourite wedding location in Cornwall to photograph?

Here in Cornwall we're blessed with countless amazing opportunities for beautiful photographs on beaches or in the countryside, I really couldn't give my favourite Cornwall wedding location or venue as there are so many to choose from, you really are spoilt for choice. You'll see on my shire to shore blog some of the wedding venues in Cornwall I've photographed including The Green, Trevenna Barns, Port Eliot House, Pencarrow House, Prussia Cove to name just a few.

What do you like most about being a wedding photographer?

I love being a wedding photographer and it never feels like work to me. It's always an honour to be part of such a special, happy and unique day as a wedding day. There's never a dull moment.

How do we get in touch with you to find out your availability to photograph our wedding?

Please get in touch with me using my online contact form

Alternatively you can email me directly here: mark@markshawphotography.co.uk

What if you can't make our wedding?

This is an important question to ask any wedding photographer, or any of your wedding suppliers in fact. What happens if we can't make your wedding for some reason such as an illness? I'm lucky to be part of a small group of documentary wedding photographers in Cornwall and Devon who if the worst was to happen will be able to cover the wedding in my absence. Touch wood, I've never missed a wedding but it's always good to have a backup plan, just in case.

Can you recommend a wedding videographer?

Yes I know just the man! Please check out my wedding videography page for more information about having a wedding film made in the same style you see in this video...

What if it rains?

2017 in Cornwall was one of the wettest wedding seasons I’ve experienced, but rain doesn't stop play and rarely does it rain all day so I always look to make the most of any dry spells. Rainy days should never dampen your spirit - get the umbrellas out and put on your welly boots and enjoy!

Do you take group photos?

Yes I do take group photos but suggest these are kept to a minimum if possible. If you want group shots such as the bridal party, a photo with everyone and maybe one or two with parents then I'm your man.  Couples who book me generally want me there to watch and capture what I see throughout the day, photographing it all naturally without influencing or setting the moments up. I truly believe that natural photos make the best wedding photos.

I always photograph wedding groups and these can be fun, classic posed, whatever floats your boat :)

How and when will we receive our wedding photos?

I know how exciting it is to await your wedding images and I always aim to get a few previews shared within a fortnight of your wedding day to keep you going until the complete collection is ready (within 8 weeks with a small blog post uploaded shortly afterwards).  Photos are uploaded to your online gallery first and then photos are posted to your home address on USB along with 30 prints.

Can you help us create a wedding album?

A wedding album is not included in my package mainly because these days it's so incredibly easy to make a wedding album yourself online and make it personal to you. I can make recommendations for professional online wedding albums that you can create yourself or if you need any help then of course I'd be only happy to help.

How many photographs will I get?

The amount of photos you get will depend upon which wedding photography package you choose. Whichever package you choose, you will receive the photos in high resolution on USB + online gallery, each photo is individually edited in my style you see across  my website and they are your photos to do as you wish.

How should we be/act in front of the camera?

Be yourselves and ignore the camera, hug, kiss, cuddle, hold hands, dance, whatever you like - but be yourselves. If you’re shy, be shy. If you can’t stop laughing, just laugh. I want to capture the real you, real moments, real emotions so just relax, enjoy and just ignore me; you'll notice my gallery has very few photographs with anyone looking directly at the camera.
